Health Care in north Wales
HEART TREATMENT
Pat Larsen is among hundreds of North Wales patients who have had to travel to Manchester for heart treatments. “The service there is excellent but the journey is arduous and it can be difficult to get in when waiting lists are so long,” she said.
Alun Ffred says:
We need an angiography service immediately in Ysbyty Gwynedd and full treatment should eventually be available here in Bangor.
The North Wales Air Ambulance has proved itself over more than 3 years. The Assembly Government should now meet the core cost of the service with the great work done by volunteers continuing to provide extra facilities.
MORE CASH — BUT NOT WELL SPENT
Government Health spending in Wales has doubled, but those who depend on the service have not seen enough difference.
Alun Ffred says:
The problem is that much of the money is wasted on bureaucracy after the Assembly Labour Government created 22 unnecessary local health boards.
Now they are shifting 70 valuable public service jobs from Ysbyty Gwynedd to Prestatyn. This urge to move everything eastwards is something that we in Arfon are having to fight against constantly.
DENTISTS
Gwynedd has the lowest number of people in Wales registered with NHS dentists. I meet many people who find it almost impossible to pay for treatment. It’s great to have a new surgery in Caernarfon but we need many more.
